I was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of...Let go. I was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 10. During my teenage years I never tested my blood sugars even though I gave my shots. When I was 20 I had laser surgery in both eyes for retinopathy. THAT was my wakeup call. Guess what? My parents were just as bad as you at being over protective and pointing out that I was different from the other kids.
